About coaching.

What is coaching?

It can be hard to know what to expect from coaching when you consider it for the first time. I know, because I’ve been there.

// What can I expect? //

Coaching promotes self-awareness - an attribute which makes us better leaders, managers, artists, parents, partners, friends and colleagues.

As your coach, I will provide the time, space and tools for you to understand your values, find your sense of purpose and articulate the impact you wish to have in the world. We will focus on what you want to do, and who you need to be in order to do it.

Coaching can help you to:

  • manage negative voices and limiting beliefs

  • process your emotions

  • get out of your comfort zone

  • build confidence

  • gain clarity

  • find creative solutions

  • make brave change

I will support you to learn, grow and take transformative action.

// What is coaching not? //

It’s often helpful to compare coaching to other one-to-one services.

Coaching vs. therapy
Coaching is not therapy. Emotions are welcome in coaching and will inform the actions and attitudes you choose as you move forward in your life. However, unlike therapy, coaching does not deal with past trauma or the psychological context of emotions. You know the journey that has brought you to where you are today. Today is where we start.

Coaching vs. mentoring
Coaches do not bring their personal or professional experience to coaching sessions and will not advise or direct as a mentor might. Coaches and clients may have interests and experiences in common, but a good coach will never presume to know what is best for their client. Instead, a coach will enable you to find ideas and solutions for yourself.

Coaching vs. consultancy
Consultants are engaged to deliver a particular objective or outcome. Coaches, on the other hand, have no attachment to the outcomes of our coaching. Instead, a coach will support you to take steps towards the most fulfilling professional and personal life you can imagine. You will take complete responsibility for those actions, and take pride in your own success.

// New to coaching? //

Don’t worry! Most of my clients come to it completely new too.

“I cannot recommend Vicky highly enough as a coach. Like many people in the arts, I was made redundant due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. I had not experienced coaching before and was unsure whether it would be worth considering and investing in. Without doubt it has helped me enormously and I keep asking myself why I have not done this before now. The practice has been transformational and life changing. Through this period of great uncertainty I have found an inner confidence and strength through the sessions. Vicky is calm, caring and wants you to achieve the best you can no matter what your circumstances are. The more you put in, the more you will get out of it. Be open, honest and listen. I have developed my values and guiding principles that will not only support me on my life journey but will aid my personal professional development and career pathway. I know that this is the start of a longer term coaching relationship that I will return to when required.”

It was really useful to gain a deeper understanding of my professional self and what makes me tick. The increased sense of perspective and focus I've gained will help me to confidently pursue the next steps in my career”
